Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Elinor Carter and I class myself as a mezzo-soprano because of my rich vocal quality. However, with a range which often makes sopranos jealous (I can reach Queen of the Night top F when the wind’s in the right direction!) I am comfortable covering not only the standard mezzo and alto oratorio repertoire but also some soprano parts as well. Here is a list of pieces I have already performed.
Having been born into a family of musicians, music is very much a part of me and I find myself drawn to a huge variety of styles, from baroque through to contemporary. There is nothing quite as magical as Bach for sheer musical genius, but I am equally at home letting my hair down with a bit of Tom Lehrer. I have a particular fondness for the romantics and love the intimacy of a recital setting as well as the thrill of singing with a full symphony orchestra and chorus. Critics, conductors, choir- and audience-members alike comment on how I bring the music alive and give it meaning. Read some of their comments.
As well as being a performer myself, I am passionate about getting others singing and injecting them with the same energy and enthusiasm that I am told I have. I find it greatly rewarding to work with singers of all ages, from individuals to large choral societies. My high musical standards and technical input are always balanced by a sense of humour and huge encouragement, ensuring that singers of any level feel that they have achieved something and come away motivated and wanting more. I currently direct a small a capella group near Wallingford, Oxfordshire, and new members are always welcome. If you are interested, follow this link to the wonderfully named Cat’s Chorus!
I hope you enjoy looking around my site and listening to some samples of my singing. If you have any questions, would like to know about forthcoming engagements in your area or are interested in booking me for a concert or workshop with your choir, please ring me on 01491 835709 or e-mail me:
